Taraji P. Henson Gives Stepmom’s Old Home a Modern Makeover as a Thank You for Saving Her Father

“Empire” star Taraji P. Henson had a major surprise in store for the woman she credits for turning her dad’s life around.
In a video, the actress opened up about giving her childhood home a makeover in memory of her dad for her stepmother Angie.
Henson recalled, “I met my stepmom Angie when I was 16. She just made my dad a better man,” reported by People.
In a new episode of “My Houzz” the “Hidden Figures” star said she wanted to give back to the woman who impacted her family in a major way by tackling a design project with the help of interior designer Stephanie Gamble.
She explained: “My dad was just lost. He was homeless at one time when I was really young. She stepped into his life and she was everything he needed. I was so happy. I just loved her right away.”
But when Henson’s dad got sick and passed away in 2006, he left Angie all alone in the dream house they had built together.
The actress said she still holds fond memories of the family home, which is located just outside of Washington, D.C., and wanted to spruce up the kitchen, living room, and dining room.
Henson explained:
“When I went home this past time, I went in the kitchen and pulled out the drawer and it just disintegrated in my hands — fell apart, like in two or three pieces. I was like, ‘We’ve gotta do something.’”
So the star decided to partner with the “My Houzz” design team and give the old home a modern makeover in memory of her dad.
“I just want to bring more life and light into that house because when my father first passed it was really hard for my stepmom,” Henson explained. “He was so still in the house. So we just want to make the house hers now and still keep my dad in it.”
She felt like it was her duty to do something special for the woman who saved her dad’s life.
